Full size, not the thumbnail
Inside a .procreate file is a small preview picture that Procreate makes for its gallery. It’s easy to pull out, so many online converters hand you that and call it a conversion. It is a low-resolution copy, much smaller than the canvas you painted on.
toPSD reads the layers themselves and draws the artwork from them: visible layers only, with their opacity, blend modes, clipping masks and layer masks. The PNG is the full canvas size, and it carries the canvas’s DPI, so print sizes stay right.
Colors stay the same
The PNG carries the file’s color profile. Artwork painted on a Display P3 canvas keeps its wider colors in any app that reads color profiles.
One small difference to know: layers set to the Hue or Saturation blend mode can look slightly different from Procreate, because the math for those two modes isn’t identical.
Free, with no sign-in
The flat PNG is free and needs no account. There is no watermark, and no upload size limit, because nothing is uploaded. The file is converted in your browser, which also means it works the same on a work computer that blocks installs.
PNG, JPG or PSD?
| You want to | Use |
|---|---|
| Share or print the finished image | Flat PNG (free, no sign-in) |
| A smaller file for email or the web | Save the PNG as JPG in any image editor |
| Each layer as a separate image | Layers as PNG, a ZIP (free with a free account) |
| Keep editing with layers | Layered PSD (first one free with an account) |
Getting the time-lapse too
If the file was recorded with time-lapse on, the recording is stored inside the .procreate file. toPSD saves it as one MP4 video for free. See the Procreate file viewer for what else you can see in a file.
